Repositories Renewal Project: WREO upgrade now complete
By Helena Mellows
WRL’s Repository Renewal Project, launched in 2022 to identify and implement the next iteration of the repositories infrastructure, is now well underway. This has involved an in-depth review of the repository requirements, followed by a period of consultancy and market testing in 2024 to scope current and emerging options. From this, WRL made the decision to renew its commitment to EPrints platform as the best available infrastructure for the next phase of repositories provision. White Rose Libraries is now very pleased to announce that the first stage of the repositories’ infrastructure upgrade has been completed, with WREO being successfully updated.
The work to upgrade WREO to the latest version of EPrints began in November 2024. This involved a process of reviewing the current configuration, then rebuilding this in the latest version of EPrints (EPrints 3.4.6). This was then tested centrally for security, functionality, and accessibility, before undergoing a period of user testing by teams in Leeds, Sheffield, and York. Following a successful reconfiguration and testing period, the upgrade was finalised and WREO was moved onto the live server at the beginning of January 2025. This has been a very successful upgrade, and we look forward to WRRO also being updated in the coming weeks.
An in-depth report on the Repositories Renewal Project can now be found on the WRL website. This gives more detail on the scope of the project, the process of identifying the next phase of the repositories, and the recommendations made.
