Together with the University of Sheffield, White Rose University Press are thrilled to announce the publication of Screening the Fleet by Professor Jonathan Raynor. This exciting new open access monograph explores the representation of the modern Royal Navy on British television over a fifty year period, from 1973 to 2023. 

Screening the Fleet focuses on the Navy and its sailors as documentary subjects, offers insights into the changing expectations of television audiences, and includes perspectives of the film-makers behind the lens. The monograph debates developments in television and documentary approaches using the representation of the Royal Navy, and its changing position in perceptions of British identity.
